I’m taking a risk asking this because there aren’t many of you to ask, so please take 10 seconds to answer this simple yes-or-no question:
Is there something big
that really matters
you want help doing?
If yes, then please click here and write “Yes” in the comments.
The problem.
As you may know from my Plan to Stop Sucking and Kick Ass my big goal is to, in the next 9 months, produce and offer to people 10 valuable attention management tools, without splitting too many infinitives.
This week I was struggling with too many things to do for the next tool. I couldn’t make progress toward my big goal because everything was dependent on doing something else first… it seemed. Sound familiar?
Here’s what worked for me to to make some good progress.
Find the Fast Path.
If you signed up for regular updates then you received Putting Wings on Your Desires: How to Find the Small Steps that Make Your Big Dreams Real. I had made my Wing and all those many many small steps had me bewildered. I was ready for Step 4: Find the Fast Path. I needed to take the quickest path to a small success— get some proof my idea might actually work.
For me, the obvious fast path to some proof is to actually make my offer, which I will do very soon, and in order to do that, I needed to do this: Write down the best offer I can make.
Here is the question you need to ask yourself:
What is the very next small step that will take me as close to my goal the fastest?
Find Flow by Setting a Timer.
With my small goal in mind I wanted to make it fun, so I set a timer for the magic 45 minutes, got my blank page in front of me and …
Go! No wait. Make some coffee first. Okay, Go!
Timing a goal is the T of SMART & SEXY goals. Once I clicked Go, time actually disappeared as I wrote. And what’s surprising is how quickly I got close to a finished product even before the timer beeped. I totally enjoyed doing it, the way a child enjoys racing a friend to a nearby tree.
Stay tuned. You’ll see the results very soon.
In the meantime let me ask you this question once again:
Is there something big that really matters you want help doing?
Write Yes! in the comments below.
