There is no doubt we live in a brutal world. When someone else says, so well, what I am trying to say as well as I can, I have only to point you to it.
Watch this video.†
It’s one of the most beautiful, truthful short films I’ve ever seen. It has become a prayer for me as I contemplate what I have to offer.
Because so many people, including I, spend so much time focused on ourselves, I rail against the language of self-improvement, self-esteem, self help, self, self, self. At the same time I understand that any good choice must always include the self— what I have to offer.
Tomorrow I offer you a place to think and talk about yet another angle on the theme of making good choices. It’s called, How to Stay Focused on What’s Best During the Holidays. Register here.
If you can’t make it, sign up for news about next one here.
The season of giving is always with us when we tell someone, “Here is what I have to offer.”
I wish I could give this to you as well. Peace.
† On the 30th of September 2011, in front of a sell-out theatre at the BFI in London, Charlie Kaufman delivered the final lecture in BAFTA’s 2011 Screenwriters’ Lecture Series. Full 70 minute Lecture. Images Captured (Mark III) & Edited: Eliot Rausch

The video is moving. The words, the images. Especially in light of Friday’s events. And my own role as a parent of two who are launching. And myself, who am also launching, yet again. And the relationship with my spouse, which we are relaunching as we move into the next chapter of our lives. We can only be ourselves, and it is both humbling and uplifting that this is our offer.
I love all that launching. Every day is actually an opportunity to redo, rekindle, relaunch.
